Surface Roughening
The adjustable laser pulse energy levels allow the user to determine how the surface will be treated. The laser can in most applications remove a target layer from a surface without damaging the surface.
A higher pulse power will result in some surface roughness, which might be beneficial to some processes such as gluing or bonding.

The achievable roughness depends heavily on the substrate material and will be significantly lower compared with abrasive blasting. But only the laser will create a clean, oxide free surface with a micro profile in one step without any residue.

Our laser systems can be used on various substrates to create a surface roughness: metals, plastics and even composites.

We have laser systems installed in the automotive industry to create perfect surfaces for plastic and/or aluminum bonding.
We are currently getting a lot of attention from the aircraft industry, since our laser systems can roughen many composite materials without damaging the fibers. This creates a perfect surface for bonding.
